We’ll never be good enough to win Capcom’s World Finals for Street Fighter V, but we wish we were – just to bring home the trophy we created for them.

Capcom is a legendary gaming company, famous for titles like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man and Devil May Cry. It’s not surprising, given Capcom’s presence in video games, that their e-sports league and tournaments are some of the highest attended and watched around the world. Being excited about all things eSports, we were stoked when Capcom called us to create a unique and impressive trophy to be presented to the winner of the Street Fighter V World Finals each year for the next 9 years and permanently on display at Capcom headquarters.

We hit the ground running. We started first with sketches to explore three distinct creative directions, then created a 3D model before it was put into final production. It was important that the trophy accurately represented the spirit of the Street Fighter V game and the grandeur of being the world Champion. We were able to capture the significance and power of the trophy by including the famous silhouette of Ryu’s dragon punch as a gold-plated die cut piece over the trophy resin cup with gold handles to match. To put it all over the top we added LED lights to illuminate the whole cup for dramatic effect.

"Working with EAT on Capcom Cup 2016 was an exceptional experience as they were able to work around our incredibly tight deadlines and delivered stunning results!"

Neidel Crisan - Director, Digital Media & eSports at Capcom

As this trophy lives at Capcom HQ, we also created smaller first, second and third prize trophies in the same vein that the winners could actually take home.

This was such a great project for us – we love creating physical pieces. Also, as video game lovers, it was a joy to create such a significant piece for the E-Sports community. We’ll see everyone next year – we’ll be the ones in the back having been knocked out in the preliminaries :)
